David and Mickey migrated to New Mexico from Maryland. Total Systems Construction, Inc. was not their first builder. The first two just didn't meet the time lines and criteria to satisfy these newcomers.
Actually, one of their first two builders recommended Total Systems Construction, Inc.
When Mickey met Jan Baker of Total Systems Construction, Inc., they had a 3 hour meeting, traveled around to several local homes to take a look at them, and Mickey was sold on Jan.
At their meeting, Mickey discussed her desire for "open living", and views.
Within two weeks, Jan and Al had a sketch ready for them to review. Still in Maryland, David and Mickey loved the plans, and their home was designed with views in mind.
Mickey states that "Jan, just got it!". Obviously, this was the company to fulfill their dream home come true.
Although Mickey and David stayed in Maryland, they made several trips out to Placitas, and Jan and Al Baker toured them through their new home. All of the amenities, tiles, surfaces, colors were a collaboration between Mickey and Jan. Mickey and David got weekly photos sent to them. Progress became a weekly treat.
David says his number one concern was "chemistry", and that chemistry was there. David says Al Baker is a "meticulous craftsman, obsessed with quality, and doing things right. A real hands-on builder".
After all the planning and site development, Al Baker and Total Systems Construction, Inc. broke ground on July 7, 2004.
As promised, on-time and under budget, the Byrds moved in on December 20, 2004, exactly on the date specified that their new home would be ready.
Mickey says that they'd come up with new ideas, and Jan kept the project on budget.
Are the Byrds satisfied? Absolutely. Both are amazed that it takes just one phone call about anything that needs fixing or adjusting, and Al Baker himself is there that day.
